The Cedars Retreat Center is an ideal setting for small group retreats. Nestled in old-growth forest on the banks of the Clackamas River, it seems to have sprung naturally from its surroundings. The only sounds you hear are the wind in the trees, the rippling water and the songs of a hundred birds. This is a place for teaching and learning, setting goals, renewing commitments and discovering yourself.
Discover Privacy
It's hard to believe that The Cedars is 45 minutes from downtown Portland. The setting is utterly secluded. With a capacity of 40 during the day and 30 overnight, this facility holds one group at a time. Whether you come for strategic planning or family renewal, you will find peace and the freedom to focus clearly on your agenda. While you are here, The Cedars is yours alone.

Learn
More than simply a retreat, The Cedars is an 80-acre environmental learning laboratory. University students, school children, wilderness clubs and others come here to discover nature in all its rich variety... from red cedar forest to meadows, and wetlands to riverbank. An osprey nests in a tall tree. Eagles soar overhead. The Cedars is being carefully protected and restored so that your group can experience the powerful presence of a centuries-old Cascades forest.
Comfort
Indoors, you will find a lovely facility designed for relaxation and comfort. The lodge, fully remodeled in 1995, features two separate meeting rooms with fireplaces, skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows. Half of the 12 guest rooms have twin beds, half have a single and bunks; all rooms contain a vanity/sink and offer views of lush greenery. The Cedars provides full audiovisual equipment, a piano, TV/VCR and stereo/CD player.
Fresh
Northwest dining is renowned for fresh ingredients and imaginative preparation. Meals at The Cedars follow the tradition of Pacific Northwest Country Cuisine. Your group can enjoy home-baked bread, grilled salmon with herbs, blackberry pie...served buffet or banquet style in a relaxed and conversational dining area. With prior notice, menus can be designed for special diets and tastes.
Leisure
Allow plenty of time at The Cedars for leisure. There are areas for volleyball and horseshoes, and the Clackamas River is a fisherman's delight. This exquisite natural setting may inspire you to paint, sketch, keep a journal or write a poem. And visitors of all ages enjoy hiking the trails in search of wildlife, picnicking under the trees or collecting a bouquet of wildflowers.

Spirit
Whatever your beliefs, you will sense the spirit of The Cedars. Founded by Lutheran Outdoor Ministries and now owned by Concordia University, The Cedars welcomes people of all faiths. This is a setting for dreams, reflection and new insight. It is a place to discover yourself.
